Crossing the Arabah (Arava) Valley

The project is a series of 4 photos of a sun power plant, from January 2012, in Kibbutz Samar situated the Arabah (Arava) Valley, Southern Israel, close to the Israel-Jordan border. The mirrors in Israel reflect the very similar landscape in Jordan, symbolically crossing the border.
Samar is a man-made oasis in the middle of the desert, an edgy place to live, from all points of view. Here, technologies make life possible and sustainable in extreme conditions. People broke the desert boundaries and unlocked the water from kilometers under the ground. A solar power plant proves that a whole community can thrive with only a few mirrors and a core that capture a little bit of sun and distributes electricity.
I’s a remote, yet well connected community. A national highway to Eilat and the Akaba Gulf passes through the kibbutz. The dates they produce here are maybe the best in the world. The kibbutz members travel often and bring new ideas and things.
This beautiful place was unveiled to me like a treasure that needs to be shared.

Technically, this series of 4 images should be presented as a light box, size 150 x 30 x 10 cm, mounted on the wall.
